On Saturday 16th November 2024 Glenavon faces Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park. 6o3s4u
Stephen McDonnell pulled no punches ahead of the trip to East Tyrone. “As the league table stands, we are in a relegation battle,” he said. “We have produced some encouraging performances, but the bottom line is that we have not won enough games. We need to start winning matches.”
Although Dungannon has lost its last four league fixtures, it has had a very good season so far. Stephen expects a tough 90 minutes. “They have had some poor results recently,” he added. “But they remain a good side with good players. Rodney [McAree] will be hoping for a positive reaction from them. We will have to improve on our last two displays.”
The Blues’ boss reports that the players have trained well this week. “We had two good sessions,” he continued. “The lads worked very hard. They also seemed to listen well to the advice we tried to give them. But that is how it usually is. The challenge is to translate what happens on training nights to a match situation. We know that the players have more to offer than they have shown in recent weeks. If they raise their level of performance and do it consistently, it could transform our season.”
Harry Lynch and Paul McGovern are unavailable due to commitments with the Northern Ireland Under-19 squad. David Toure (ankle ligaments) is injured. Mark Haughey played a full game for the Reserves on Wednesday evening but is unlikely to be risked on the synthetic playing surface at Stangmore Park.
In September Glenavon drew 1-1 with Dungannon Swifts at Mourneview Park.
