The special event, initiated and organised by Glenn Emerson and his wife Karen, was an outstanding success. It brought together directors, players, coaches, ers and the club’s many volunteer helpers.

Guests enjoyed a four-course meal and musical entertainment.

For those who donated to the two charities there was a draw for an impressive range of prizes.

Eddie Drury, a fundraiser for PIPS for the last four years, was delighted with the almost £1,500 raised.

“PIPs is heavily involved in suicide intervention and bereavement ,” he said. “It has offices in Lurgan and Newry. This cheque is desperately needed.”

Eddie, a committed fundraiser for many worthy causes, has raised over £12,000 in the past four years for PIPs. In September he was one of 34 people who walked from Malaga to Mihaz – a distance of 75 miles – to PIPs. The group generated over £65,000.

Next year Eddie hopes to cross the Andalucian Mountains in aid of PIPs. He is already garnering sponsorship and would welcome your . Please get behind him.

David McDaid, Jeff Hughes and Johnny McMurray have established Man On to help address the crisis in male mental health. The three friends, who met when they were at Larne F.C., use football as a vehicle to assist others.

“We organise five-a-side games to bring men together, encourage them to talk and be there for those in need,” said David. “We are in the early stages of getting things off the ground. These funds will be vital.”

Both Eddie and David applauded Glenn and Karen’s decision to hold an event to acknowledge the hard work of the people who keep Glenavon going and raise money for charity.

“The chairman and Karen have been a breath of fresh air,” said Eddie. “They have worked extremely hard, not just with the organisation of the event at Brownlow House, but with other projects. They deserve the full backing of all our ers.”

“The Christmas Ball brought everyone together, including the players,” added David. “It makes all of us in the dressing room even more determined to help the club to be successful.”
