The William Walker ers’ Club, which donated £2,000 to Glenavon in December, has made a second contribution of £2,000. It also subscribed to Mark Haughey’s Benefit. Chris Gilkinson, chairman, presented the second four figure cheque to Warren McCleary, treasurer of the parent club, at the recent home fixture against Loughgall. 383q1j
“We are grateful to the Walker,” said Warren. “The period between April and August is always difficult financially because income is much reduced. This donation will help.”
The Walker club, formed in January 1965, boasted over 80 during the halcyon days of the 1990s. Its current hip is 26. “We are not as strong as we once were,” said treasurer Roy McStea. “But we do our best to be as ive as we can. £4,000 represents a contribution of around £160 per member which is a decent effort.”
The William Walker ers’ Club’s new president is Mr. Greer Geddis, Managing Director of Avondale Foods (Craigavon) Limited, Glenavon’s man corporate sponsor. Greer’s father, Derek, who ed away in February 2024, held the post for over 30 years.
In March 1995 Derek presided at the official opening of the club’s facilities under the main grandstand.
“We were delighted when Greer accepted our invitation,” said Walker chairman Chris Gilkinson. “He rarely attended a home game without calling at our clubroom. This season Greer has been equally ive.”
